The Difference Between Fun and Frustrating in Training
Understand Skill Floors and Ceilings
Ever feel like some tricks come easy while others feel impossible?
That’s because every skill has a Skill Floor (how easy it is to start) and a Skill Ceiling (how hard it is to master). A low-skill-floor move, like “bird” in L-basing, is something most people can try on day one. But a high-skill-ceiling move, like a one-arm handstand, can take years to master.
The trick? Your Skill Floor gets lower over time! As you build strength, mobility, and awareness, things that once felt impossible become second nature.
The Skill Ceiling, though? That never changes—mastery will always take time. Train smarter by celebrating how far you’ve come while still pushing toward your ceiling!
💡 Your Challenge this week: Annalise your repertoire of skills and divide them into skill floors and ceiling. Take note of how many skills used to be a skill ceiling and are now a skill floor. Then celebrate your journey!
PS – Do this regularly and especially when you feel like you are in a training slump!
